Before I retired, I considered engineering to be my occupation (Lk 19:13 KJV) and Christ my profession (Heb 4:14 KJV).

Good for you! It took me 65 years to learn that every moment, no matter who I’m with or where I am, is ministerial.

It’s amazing how long we can go before we have the lightbulb go off. Totally agree with your piece! I have a pastor friend who did the same thing with coffee - then we got a coffee bar in the foyer!

Great post. I learned from a good boss early in my work life that my days were spent on holy ground. I was also influenced by Eugene Peterson, who wrote about the holiness of the everyday in many of his books.

It went to another level when I became a manager and has a direct opportunity to bless those that worked for me, by ensuring they were well trained and supported!

Not everyone wanted their performance and expectations to move upward, but for those who saw true value in their contributions, as I did, amazing things happened.

I took great care to not just check the box on annual performance reports. I had frequent interaction with my direct reports, and helped them grow in a number of areas, so performance reviews were just a continuation of our regular engagement, making it a positive experience. One man even got emotional during his annual review. No previous manager had been as supportive of him, and he broke down in tears!

Again, not every employee story was a good one, but I was blessed by so many opportunities to impact others in the best use of their God-given talents!
